One of the typical products of the area in the province of Naples is Long Pumpkin or Cocozza Zuccarina, typical vegetable of many recipes of the local peasant tradition.
From the characteristic elongated and narrow shape (can exceed 30 kg. of weight and one meter in length), with dyed orange skin and pulp with green stripes, sweet and aromatic taste, the "Cocozza" is a treasure trove of mineral salts, sugars, vitamin C, beta-carotene, dietary fiber and potassium.
It is ideal in slimming diets because it gives a sense of satiety although it contains few calories and lends itself to many recipes, such as the most typical of the area involving the use of "Cocozza" roasted with garlic and pepper, in the preparation of soups, stews, pasta or in pickles in olive oil. The cultivation is carried out today by modern and quality-conscious standards, the collection takes place from July to September.
From the seeds are extracted the "seminchi ", tasty pastime of late Sunday meal, rich in vitamin A.
